During his 12 years+ experience he has built up in depth knowledge from several key areas of application, such as border control, national security, public administrations, e-passports, airport security, electronic services and transactions, e-banking, access control and mobile security.

After a career at the security printing company Joh.Enschedé (NL) he founded the European Biometrics Group in 2004 with the purpose of bringing together the fragmented knowledge and experience in the field of biometrics. Currently his network covers all relevant areas of biometrics, from strategic to operational, from legal to technical.

Max Snijder is (has been) member of several high level bodies. He is secretary and co-founder of the European Association for Biometrics ( At the EAB he is chairing the Privacy Impact Assessment Working Group. On invitation by the UK Home Office he joined the core reference group of the Biometrics Committee of ERNCIP (European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection, He is Founding Member of the IFIP Working Group on Identity Management and member of the ePractice Working Group on eID. In 2008 he joined ThinkTrust, a European Think Tank on “Investigating Security, Dependability, Trust, Privacy and Identity from ICT and social perspectives” ( He is member of the industrial committee of the STORK Project ( and was member of several end user committees of European research projects, such as TURBINE ( and 3DFace ( His participation to high level strategic projects like ELSA (European Large Scale Action, preparing a European eIDM infrastructure) and ESRT (European Security Round Table) has brought Max Snijder to develop a vision on large scale use of biometrics in digital environments. Edwin Jacobs is member of the Brussels bar and partner at time.lex. Also affiliated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law and ICT at the University of Leuven, and teaching assistant of negotiation and mediation at the University of Antwerp. Officially accredited mediator and member of VOBA and CEPINA. 

Edwin read law at the university of Namur, Leuven and Norwich, European law at the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken, and company management at Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussels.

He also has a broad experience as in-house company lawyer and is a sympathising member of the institute for company lawyers (IBJ-IJE). His varied experience and expertise make him a pragmatic sounding board for in-house lawyers.
